About

Dr. Giovanna Li Petri is a researcher at the Institute for the Study of Nanostructured Materials (ISMN) of theĀ  National Research Council (CNR) in Palermo, Italy. She specializes in green chemistry, focusing on sustainable and environmentally friendly approaches to chemical processes.

She graduated cum laude with a degree in Pharmacy in 2016 and promptly began her Ph.D. in Molecular and Biomolecular Sciences (XXXII cycle). In 2020, she earned a double doctoral degree from the University of Palermo and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Her Ph.D. research centered on the synthesis, characterization, and biological evaluation of novel imidazo[2,1-b][1,3,4]thiadiazole bioactive molecules, aiming to develop new therapeutic agents for diseases with significant unmet medical needs, including pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and mesotheliomas.

After completing her Ph.D., Dr. Li Petri spent a brief period at the University of Sunderland (UK) as a Research Assistant in medicinal chemistry, where she explored new molecular scaffolds for potential drug development. Upon returning to Palermo, she worked for nearly three years as a postdoctoral researcher at the Ri.MED Foundation. During this time, she focused on the synthesis of small molecules targeting the NLRP3 inflammasome.

Dr. Giovanna Li Petri is the author of twenty peer-reviewed scientific articles, collaborating with both national and international research teams. Her work has been published in prestigious journals and presented at various conferences.
